Read our exclusive interview with Levan Tsikurishvili below:
Hi Levan, Great to talk to you. How did you come about working with Avicii? You’ve worked on several projects before, how did your friendship come about?
I worked with Tim in 2013 on a short documentary titled “Avicii On Tour”. That inspired me to one day produce a feature documentary about Tim. I thought it would be interesting to follow Tim’s career and personal life.
So True Stories includes footage across Tim’s whole career, which you have seen first hand. Tell us a little about the story being told in this documentary.
This documentary is about a young man who become very successful at a young age. It shows the dilemma artist’s often face, giving up their personal life by becoming an artist. Everybody knows the name Avicii and his music, but very few people know Tim. Avicii and Tim are not the same people, in fact I would go as far to say that they are opposites.
You’ve been working with Tim for several years, and have spent a lot of time touring and living a similar lifestyle to him, how hard is it to balance your work and personal life?
As a director it’s always difficult to find a perfect balance between personal life and work. For projects like this, I really want to give 110% to my work. But it becomes easier to handle after few months of touring once you settle into things.
From the eyes of a director, was True Stories quite a challenging documentary to shoot? What was the hardest task in creating a film that did Tim’s life justice?
It was definitely challenging that it took so long to producer, but it was a decision I had to make, to be able to catch the magical moments naturally. My team give me a lot of support on these projects, so I have to thank to my team a lot! It can be very difficult to meet deadlines as a director, as the distributors are always very strict on timing, and finishing the film in time for the release.
You also worked on the music video for Lonely Toghether with Rita Ora, what was the idea behind the story that takes place in the video?
The idea was actually to create something that could describe ”Lonely Together” it is that simple;).
Levan, It has been a pleasure talking to you and we are looking forward to seeing True Stories out in the Cinema.
