Top Christmas Gifts for DJs & Producers this year

Producers and DJs can be hard (and stressful) to shop for if you don’t know what your looking for. DJ equipment can be very expensive, but there’s also a few essentials that every producer and DJ needs that are under £50.

So as Christmas is fast approaching, we curated a list of perfect presents to buy your producer or DJ friend, some cheap some expensive. The following products are all items that I have owned myself and would certainly recommend to any DJ/producer.

All of the items on this list are available on Amazon, and many you can get through Prime. If you are unsure what to get your friend or would like to put some money towards an item, you can pickup an Amazon voucher for any amount here.

Check out our DJ/Producer Christmas Gift List below:

FL Studio – Producer Edition

FL Studio EDM Authority News

FL Studio is one of the leading Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) for producers and DJ’s.

‘Fruity Loops’ is the chosen daw by many successful DJ’s including Avicii, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Oliver Heldens, Deadmau5 and a whole load more. It’s easy to use, has thousands of plugins and instruments and can be used on tablets and phones as well as your PC.

There are many other DAWs to consider including Ableton, Logic, Cubase and a whole load more, but this is the perfect package for any producer starting out, and is one of the most reasonably priced options starting at only £143 available here.

Komplete Kontrol S61 MK2 MIDI keyboard

Native Instruments EDM Authority News

The Komplete Kontrol S61 MK2 is the perfect keyboard for any producer looking for a physical controller to create their music.

You can assign instruments, samples, vocals or basically anything that is a sound to its keys allowing you to create your music with the physical instrument instead of a keyboard. In my time using it, my creativity has exploded now that I can mess about with keys and create a sound that I wouldn’t have otherwise.

The S71 can also be used as a controller for most DAWs, allowing you to scroll through instruments, play/pause, change volumes etc and can control all key options without you having to touch the mouse.

I don’t want to say that it is essential, but once you get one you’ll never go back. Grab one from £559 here.

Yamaha HS5 Studio Monitors

Yamaha HS5 EDM Authority News

Every DJ and Producer needs a strong pair of Studio monitors. The Yamaha HS5 is an incredibly crisp sounding unit giving a true sound perfect for producers perfecting their track, or any DJ who wants a decent set of monitors to practice with.

For those who ask what’s the difference between a monitor and a speaker – The answer is simple. A speaker is designed to improve the sound of the music, meaning it may not sound how the producer made it. A monitor gives a ‘true sound’ meaning what you hear is exactly the sound being played, making it perfect for producers.

Although there are cheaper options on the market and newer versions available from Yamaha, the HS5 has proven it’s place amongst the Music industry and is a true workhorse. You can pick them up from £319 for a pair here.

Rekordbox – From Pioneer

Rekordbox EDM Authority News

Pioneers own music management software is the worlds leading organisation tool for DJ’s. It’s used by producers and DJ’s across the globe to plan their performances, set cues and other vital information, export information straight to your USB’s, and even works in the live environment.

I’ve used it for some time now, and has become a key element in creating my sets allowing me to focus more on my skills and not organisation.

Plans start from $9.99 a month at rekordbox.com

Toshiba 1/2/3TB External Hard drive

Any DJ will understand how important a Hard Drive can be. I own 3 of these guys, one storing all of my project files etc, the other two containing my full audio library.

Of course, there are many hard drives out there and it’s hard choosing which to go for. The Toshiba basics drives are super fast, affordable and have a much smaller footprint than many other hard drives.

These are available in 500GB, 1TB, 2TB & 3TB. I’d suggest starting with 1TB for £44.99 here.

I also grabbed a few Cases for my drives, keeping them organised and gives a bit of protection. You can get them for £5.99 here.

Gorilla GLS-01 Laptop Stand

Gorilla GS-01 EDM Authority News

One of the cheapest products on this list, this is still an extremely valuable piece of kit and is sure to score you some points with your friends.

Having a laptop stand saves you desk space, and means you don’t have to keep leaning over to use it. It’s the one thing DJs want, but forget about until they need it.

A stand is what every DJ needs, but forgets about until they need it.

There are many stands on the market, but the Gorilla series is one of the most popular and trusted amongst DJs. You can pickup one from £14.95 here.

Tascam DR-60d MKII
Tascam DR60d EDM Authority
The Tascam DR-60d MKII is a portable audio recorder – perfect for recording mixes, vocals, instruments or basically anything in broadcast quality.

With two XLR/TRS inputs plus a line-in, the 60d can record onto 4 channels at the same time, meaning you can always edit a particular layer saving you time and effort. One of my favorite features with this item is it’s ‘dual stereo’ function which records your audio in two files, one at normal volume and another -10 decibels incase your recording starts to clip.

You can grab a DR-60d MKII for £159 here.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO Studio Headphones – 80 OhmEDM Authority News

The Beyerdynamic DT 770’s are an industry standard, they are used among DJ’s, producers, musicians, sound engineers and a whole load more. Iv’e worked across all forms of the music industry, from Radio to Live Shows I don’t think I’ve been anywhere and not spotted someone using a pair of these.

My suggestion is to grab the 80 Ohm model which features a 3,5mm jack and a screwing 1/4inch gold adaptor, perfect for those travelling and need to plug straight into their PC or even mobile phone.

They have some of the best sound I have heard from a pair of studio headphones under the £500 mark range, and even then are competing with some of the top over-ear headphones out there. They are a very large set of headphones, and although I have not broken a pair yet, I can see that happening if you are not too careful.

Get your hands on a pair from £125 here.

Pioneer DDJ-RZX

Pioneer DDJ-RZX EDM Authority News

The DDJ-RZX is Pioneers flagship DJ Controller, featuring a 4 channel mixer, an impressive FX unit and comes bundled with licence keys for rekordbox dj, dvs and rekordbox video.

I personally am not a fan of controllers, but after using the RZX for a while it’s grown on me. This unit is perfect for DJs who want to plan out their sets and practice at home and don’t want a difficult setup taking up space. It runs with Rekordbox to help you plan sets, and also features all the outputs you would need to perform in a live venue.

Although a controller, this unit is not for newbies and I would recommend starting with something smaller. This unit is perfect for those who want a simple setup to prefect their sets before they step in front of a CDJ setup.

This is the most expensive item on the list at £2,862.69 available here.

Razer Blade Stealth Laptop

razor blade stealth EDM Authority News

The Razer Blade Stealth Laptop is probably the biggest competitor to the latest line of Macbooks right now. At a similar price point and build, this laptop is designed with gamers in mind and can handle any task you throw at it.

Slightly smaller than the 2016 13″ Macbook Pro, the Stealth laptop is perfect for those travelling, and even features a USBC Thunderbolt 3 connection that you can pair with a razor core for ultimate desktop performance. The only let down is in the ports department, only 2 USB A 3.0  ports, the USBC Thunderbolt 3 and a shared headphone / mic input. You’ll defiantly be needing a USB Hub with this one.

This laptop is perfect for DJ’s and producers who need a super powerful laptop that can also be turned into a full studio PC very easily. In our opinion, razor come out on top of Apple right here.

You can pickup one of these bad boys from £1,399.99 here.
